We had a family air hockey challenge tonight. The sysm-twins played first, then the two older boys, then my wife and I. We had a final match up between the older Sysmidget D and I. He beat me fair and square. And it was beuatiful to watch him afterwards. He was surprised, happy, proud, and a bit embarrassed. This is a big deal for him.
Things can be a blur with four boys racing around. I try my best to keep the important things etched in my mind, but so much of it comes and goes.

the awful sitcoms always make such a big deal out of the moment that a son beats his father at something. Coming from a very non-competitive family I never understood the big deal.
Also, I love air hockey. I'm thinking that when I get married I will register for one.

I was sensing that from your post, and meant that the whole sitcom mentality was awful.
It's interesting because you are the only blogger I read that is a father.
Your love for them really does come across, and whole lack of alpha male idea is refreshing!

I think one of the hardest lessons to learn for me, was that I was never going to be an alpha male. It wasn't until I met my wife and she gave me a house full of women, that I became (by default,) the alpha male.
There is a lot of conflict in seeing the macho, bullying testostorone filled assholes win all the attention while you try to be the good person you were raised to be, and thereby become invisible (especially it seemed to women.)
