Shades of grey

I'm learning to love Arianna Huffington. More for her blog than anything else. Things tend to percolate there several days before they hit the mainstream media. And, while clearly on the left, they aren't ridiculously, stridently so. By and large, the columnists are well-informed, reasonable and persuasive. And when they use fighting words, they're pretty classic. Here's an excerpt from a post from today (about Plame-gate):

The bottom line to take from this is that covert agents are not protected by our laws, and I personally would be very happy if they would all resign right now. It would be a fitting message to this administration, which loves to classify everything about who attends their energy meetings, but has no scruples about giving names out of our spies.

I'm also learning to love (brace yourselves) Bill Gates. Check out the interview at Time.com. Yes, his philanthropy didn't really kick into gear until after he married. And yes, you can call it "blood money" - though no one was ever killed by purchasing bad, buggy, monopolistic software. But look at what he's doing! He certainly seems like he's well-informed and committed.

I also was pleasantly surprised by Gates' approach to philanthropy.

He wants to make sure the money really goes to help the people.

For those of us disillusioned by the non-profit world, I don't blame him a bit.

As for Huffington, exposing the current administration's hypocrisy and overall evil, that's not leftist. It's common sense.
