King of the Jungle

We're going to see "King Kong" tomorrow, to celebrate the birthday of the Queen of the Harpies. Please don't tell me how it ends, I want to go in fresh.

The thing is three hours long. We're bringing four of the Sysmidgets with us. I was going to write a snarky post about wanting to catheterize them ahead of time, so I wouldn't need to bring all of them out for bathroom breaks. They're all boys - so the Sysmistress actually gets to see movies from end to end, while I get to endure the hostile looks of the other people in our row.

Then I watched a "Dateline NBC" show that showed a sting operation, luring would-be pedophiles into a hidden camera environment. Now I'm not in the mood for the snark. I get a bit weird about stuff like this. Intellectually, the practice of charging people for crimes when the victim isn't real feels like entrapment. The victim is virtual, no crime has occurred. It's a thought crime.

But, I also buy that if you're going for the bait, you're going to go for the real thing, sooner or later.

If anyone ever puts a hand on my kids in that way - I will hurt them to the best of my ability. If anyone does the same to your kids - I will do the same.

Again - this puts me in a weird place. I respect the laws in the abstract. I'm a civil liberties freak in the abstract. But I know that I'll go completely vigilante if threatened.

The older guys understand me being protective. I think. I'm walking them through this stuff as best I can. The little guys? They think they're the ultimate Kung Fu fighters, and they can destroy anyone who threatens them. I would give anything if that were true.

I understand what you mean about the idea of the sting.
At the same time I think that child molesters are the worst kind of human scum and should never see daylight if they go so far as to show up to a meet.

If my future kids ever get messed with I will give you a call and we can beat the living crap out of them together.

I would like to get to the roots of pedophilia. It's obviously not in nature's plan for pre-pubescents to engage in sexual activity. Why does it happen? Why does it happen more in some cultures, but not others?

As much as my reptilian brain wants to dismantle these people piece by piece, I don't think punishment is having an effect.

I don't think we deal with the root causes of things, just the horrible symptoms.

When the going gets weird, the weird get going. Which is another way of saying: Dr. S must contribute his $0.02 here. I´m currently on my SPEYECLOPS tour (cf. comment posted in Her Milfesty´s domain), and learned during a post-inspection tapas discussion yesterday that here in Spain, it is illegal to publish pictures of children — in any context, even in a group photo with their own parents — without formal written permission (normally obtained from their parents). So, for instance, the typical Trib Metro-section shot of kids building a snowman (er, snowperson) would be illegal here — even if the activity occurred in the middle of Daley Plaza — unless written permission was obtained from all of the children´s parents. Which means that the picture I recently posted of my goddaughter eating funnel cake at a Christmas market in Heidelberg would have been illegal here. Orwellian or what? This is precisely the kind of nonsense to which, e.g., HTN has served as an antedote, whether by intent or not. Ultimately, though, Dr. S agrees with the Matron of Milfiness: as a society, we haven´t even begun to get to the ¨why¨ of this issue, and until we do, Dr. S sees only more nutsy laws and immoderate policing coming down the pike.
