Delusions of Grammar
Newt (Double-Douche) Gingrich is trying to wake us up from our malaise to warn us of the impending doom! That illegal aliens are trying to massacre us. According to this Cox News (ha!) story,
Gingrich said that the "war here at home" against illegal immigrants is "even more deadly than the war in Iraq and Afghanistan."
That's a mighty bold statement. Especially as much as Mr. Gingrich was quoted last year, speaking about the "Global War on Frightening Things":
I believe if you take all the countries I just listed that you’ve been covering, put them on a map, look at all the different connectivity, you have to say to yourself: this is, in fact, World War III.
Now, the criminals that Mr. Gingrich is so upset about have been traipsing through the criminal justice system. At the state level. No federal crimes. So the problem here is the criminal justice system in the particular states. Isn't "State's Rights" a core part of the GOP platform? Other than having the INS deport these folks, the rest of the blame here falls at the local level. Mr. Gingrich, if you'd like to run for Governor of New Jersey, have at it. Otherwise, pipe down.
Roger Simon, of the adorably named Pajamas Media, recently wrote an article where he said that only candidates who realize that we're at global war with the Islamic world have the balls to defend gay marriage. WTF?
I know it’s not popular with a majority of the public or with the Presidential candidates, but I support gay marriage...Because I am such an adamant adherent of gay rights, women’s rights, human rights – the values that evolved out of the Enlightenment – I have to vote for the candidate I think will best carry forth that war (by whatever means appropriate at the moment) to defend those Enlightenment values. This means, unless I am very lucky, that I will not always love that person in all areas. Indeed, I may have to swallow some very bitter pills, but these are serious times, by far the most serious of my lifetime. And I was born at the end of World War II.
I never cease to be amazed – and perhaps it is my own myopia – that my former colleagues on the Left can be blind to this situation. They act as if the threat is not real and is only a blip caused by a post 9/11 overreaction by George Bush, thus ignoring virtually all of Western history since the year 800, not to mention the overwhelming demographic changes of recent decades. (John Edwards – interestingly an opponent of gay marriage - recently called the “War on Terror” a bumper sticker. At least, he’s consistent.) The very people most threatened by the ideology of Islamism and the institution of Sharia law – gays, women, freethinkers - are often the very people least likely to defend themselves against it. What we have on our Left is a culture of denial equal to, if not exceeding, the German Jews of the 1930s and one that has taken the canard about all politics being local to an almost ludicrous extreme.
Who is the bigger douche? The sky is falling alarmist? Or the tool who thinks that his cohorts on the Right are similarly sympathetic to gay rights and women's rights? I will expand as the day goes on.
Still too upset by last night's "Top Chef" to have my umbrage in proper order.
Flounder - you're wrong again.
