Playlist • August 1

I'll be going to Lollapalooza this weekend. Last year, the Doctor and I went.

We saw the Pixies, M83, Weezer, Spoon, the Arcade Fire, and a truly horrific set from Liz Phair. And we capped it off with a performance by one of the nations two pre-eminent little person Kiss cover bands.

This year? Flaming Lips. Sonic Youth. Coheed & Cambria. Calexico. And I'll be joined by rewhatever (a lurker), my daughter, and abouut half of the people I work with. Hopefully, the triple digit temps will lift by the weekend.

Barbara Morgenstern • "The Operator" from The Grass is Always Greener
I must welcome back the good Doctor Sardonic, who has recently returned from an undisclosed location. Hopefully, he will lend his translation skills to the verses from the first selection.

The Night Ripper • "Bounce That" from Girl Talk.
What can I say, the Steve Winwood riff actually works pretty well, there.

Sufjan Stevens • "The Mistress Witch From McClure (Or The Mind That Knows Itself)" from The Avalanche.
I miss the (defrocked) Reverend Jack. And his banjo playing.

11:25 AM

I would recomend that anyone attending the big show check out Hasidic reggae superstar Matisyahu. If you work with me, I have a bunch of mp3's on iTunes.

12:26 PM

I love those variant versions of Chicago from Avalanche.

"Flaming Lips. Sonic Youth. Coheed & Cambria." Dynamite lineup.

2:44 PM

You better stay near the emergency services booth. An old guy like you could get sick in this heat.

3:39 PM

Ubie - you're not far off from the truth. Last year, the temperature was well over 100. After drinking water for several hours, standing in the Sun, I opted for a beer. The line was shorter. After a few minutes, I stopped sweating, and started getting the chills. That seemed kinda heat stroke-ish to me, so I got out of there.

4:10 PM

Dain Brammage.

4:38 PM

I saw flaming lips at SARS-stock. Sounds like you are in for a good show!

4:51 PM

You are so fucking cool.

8:43 PM

You have such lovely, eclectic taste in music, Sysm.

However, I can't think of the Flaming Lips without thinking of this.

11:39 PM

As much as I like The Flaming Lips, that makes me cry on the inside.

11:05 AM

Of course, anyone else who makes the pilgrimage is welcome to stay over at chez Sysm.

11:52 AM

If you take Dilf, make sure he knows where the lost chldren's pavilion is. And make sure he doesn't talk to strangers, and eats his sandwich first, before his treat.

And I want him back in the condition he was in when he left the house.

12:34 PM

make sure he leaves the houe drunk then. We call that a "loophole".
