Walk with me through a Garden of Meat

One of my favorite pseudo-SciFi hypothetical questions is coming true: Will ethical vegans/vegetarians eat a burger made from beef grown from cloned beef tissue? Will anyone else, for that matter?

I'm not one to get too alarmed by genetically engineered food. Particularly when they can engineer traits that lessen the need for pesticides or preservatives.

This article in Slate preps the palate. I will leave it to those of you in academia to read the oh-so-dry-and-slightly-overcooked piece it cites.

Bleached assholes and meat by the sheet. I've got to get better theme weeks.

I'm pretty sure they'd think of another reason not to eat it. Besides the reason that it's WEIRD, I mean.

About 8 years ago there was a joke on a show here called Good News Week about cloning sheep, and someone made the very good point that if they're so clever why don't they just clone steaks? I am afeared of it though, to be honest.

7:59 AM

People screw up everything they touch. Why would this be any different? I'm sticking with nature, thank you.

9:02 AM

Meat by the sheet sounds neat!

9:25 AM

A meat sheet taste treat that can't be beat

11:53 AM

You two are out of control.

I would eat it in the rain
I would like it on a train
I would take it in a box
I would eat them with a fox

If we could control every aspect of the beef when it's being "grown" think about how tender and delicious it wopuld be.

12:35 PM

And flavorless... and odd-textured...

1:21 PM

no. the opposite of those things.

6:33 PM

Better theme weeks?! Are you kidding?

Anal bleaching and genetically engineered meat? It's a dream come true.

I have to go pinch myself now. Or throw up.

6:06 AM

Soylant green is people!

1:57 PM

Frankenfood.

1:03 AM
